Training

No matter your ability, we believe the mountains are there for everyone to enjoy. Even the best of us can gain from the shared knowledge of others, so with every expedition we aim for our clients to grow in strength, and skills to push beyond what you thought was possible.

While many clients come well equipped with the necessary skills and experience, Nims remains passionate in sharing skills and knowledge that allowed him to succeed in achieving his dreams and desires in the mountains. He doesn’t just lead, he’ll work with you to develop your skills, proficiency and confidence as a mountaineer, encouraging you to climb with an increasing self-reliance, awareness and safety.

In addition, our wider support team made up largely of Sherpa guides bring with them informed access and education into local cultures, sharing a valuable native understanding of the mountains and their surrounding environments.

Everest base camp training ensures all clients are ready for the challenge ahead of them.

Training
framework

Our training development is based around four key pillars:

Skillset

Each expedition requires differing levels of mountaineering skillsets. No matter what your current ability may be, through the planning phase we will work with you to identify areas that may need attention and further support. We can guide a beginner through the basic skills of snow and glacier travel, camp craft in high-altitude camps to name just a few, or top up the know-how of the more experienced with essential techniques for climbing in a high-altitude environment, all under the watchful supervision and instruction of Nims and his team.

Fitness

It may sound obvious, but climbers must be in excellent physical shape that is relevant to the demands of the expedition. We’ll lay out a structured plan of regular, challenging exercise in the months prior to ensure you can to perform at the high levels required for multiple days at altitude, and actively encourage sharing updates on your progress, to evaluate, and if necessary offer further advice, information and planning to get your strength and fitness to where it needs to be.

Self-awareness

In addition, a key component of Nims’ approach to training is a programme designed to increase a client’s ability in understanding how their mind and body perform under the stresses of increasing altitudes. With a stepped approach to this process, it allows time for an individual to gradually build confidence and understanding to a point of invaluable self-awareness. This ability is of the uppermost importance when making optimal judgements and decisions on the higher mountains with their ever-changing hostile environments.

Mindset

Above all else is mindset, it underpins Nims’ whole approach to mountaineering and life. He has proven time and time again by consistently applying a determined and positive attitude when aiming that little higher, you really can achieve a new possible. His infectious optimistic energy is naturally passed on and strengthens each individual within an expedition. He’ll subtlety work with you in gradually building a belief system to drive ambition and push through every step on the mountain towards your goals.

Before any expedition is undertaken, we will naturally require complete insight into your current skillset and past achievements. If there are shortfalls within abilities and experience, we can collectively discuss the opportunities and/or provide a training support plan to achieve your goals.
