Redefining What Is Possible

Nimsdai Becomes First in History to Complete 50 x 8000m Summits. On July 3rd, 2025, British-Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja stood on the summit of Nanga Parbat, marking a new era in mountaineering history.

With this climb, Nims became the first and only person in the world to achieve 50 successful ascents of 8,000 meter peaks, including 22 without supplementary oxygen.

Nims carried a special flag to the summit, honouring his dual service with the Gurkhas and the UK Special Forces. A powerful tribute to over 200 years of friendship and shared sacrifice between Nepal and the United Kingdom, the moment symbolised more than just a personal achievement, it celebrated a legacy of service, resilience, and unity.

The Most Dangerous Climb Yet

Nanga Parbat, known as the “Killer Mountain,” sadly lived up to its name this season. Nims, Founder and CEO of Elite Exped, described it as “the most dangerous expedition I’ve ever faced.” With brutal 65+ km/h summit winds, exposed blue ice where crampons couldn’t hold, and relentless rockfall, the mountain tested every ounce of experience, focus, and endurance.

Reflecting on the climb, Nims said: “I feel lucky and humbled to have reached this milestone. I’ve always believed that my purpose goes beyond the summit, it’s about inspiring others to believe in their dreams. I’m blessed to still be here, climbing, and able to continue that mission.”

Nims said: “People always say something is impossible until it’s done. After 14 Peaks, I wanted to keep showing what’s possible.

“Life will always have people who tell you your dreams are too big, that they’re unrealistic, or impossible. But if you listen to that, you’ll never try.

“My message is simple: Dream big. Work hard. Stay humble. Inspire others. Everyone has different mountains in life. If I can inspire just one person to climb theirs, then I’ve done my job.”

A Legacy of Breaking Barriers

Nims is no stranger to redefining the limits of human potential. In 2019, he completed the 14 highest peaks on Earth in just 6 months and 6 days, shattering previous timelines and reshaping what climbers believed was possible. Before Nims, most mountaineers tackled one or two 8,000ers per season. Today, multiple summits are the new norm.

His documentary “14 Peaks: Nothing Is Impossible” (Netflix, 2021) quickly became one of the platform’s most watched adventure documentaries and helped raise global awareness for the Sherpas and Porters whose work makes high-altitude dreams a reality. The film also sparked a measurable boost in tourism to Nepal, according to the Department of Tourism.

In 2021, Nims led the first-ever winter summit of K2, climbing without oxygen and alongside an all-Nepali team, another historic first.

Beyond the Summit: The Nimsdai Foundation

In 2022, Nims founded the Nimsdai Foundation, a charitable organization focused on inspiring, educating, and protecting. Its mission is to create lasting impact through high-altitude clean-ups, educational access, community resilience, and veterans’ rehabilitation.

So far, the Foundation has:

 • Completed Big Mountain Clean-Ups on Everest, K2, and Manaslu

 • Provided disaster relief after floods and earthquakes in Nepal and Pakistan

 • Initiated the construction of a Porters’ House in Lobuche, a dedicated space to support and honour the mountain’s unsung heroes

Nims’ current project, the Hat-Trick Challenge, sees him climbing the 14 Peaks and the 7 Summits for a third time. Unlike his previous missions, this time he’s self-funding the challenge so that all donations can directly support the Foundation’s work.

The Path Forward

In 2024, Nims became the fastest person to summit all 14 peaks without oxygen, completing the feat in just 2 years, 4 months, and 28 days, while leading expeditions and training teams.

He also became the only person to complete the 14 Peaks both with and without oxygen, in a combined total of 5 years, 5 months, and 12 days.

From testing gear for the Nimsdai Store, to guiding clients with Elite Exped, to expanding the reach of the Foundation, Nims is not just climbing mountains, he’s building an ecosystem that elevates others to do the same.
